About Us

Welcome to the Center for Psychotherapy.

Change your belief, Change your life..

Based in Brooklyn, NY, we’re a select team of highly experienced, state-licensed clinicians who’ve worked together for many years, each with extensive experience and New York State certified in clinical social work and many with additional post-graduate training and certification.

We provide counseling and psychotherapy plus educational seminars and presentations on numerous topics related to family life.

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE?

In the context of cultural sensitivity, we partner with consumers to address clinical issues on three distinct levels: personal, interpersonal and systemic–a comprehensive approach with a high probability of success.  Most other change and improvement approaches focus only on one and at most two of these factors.

The center is headed by John McQueen–Family Therapist, Certified Family Life Educator, Mental Health Harm Reduction Specialist, and Educator.

Customers trust us

why choose us

Our therapeutic model is by no means the only model there is, but its among the most effective, in terms of changing lives.

OUR MISSION

To strengthen relationships by helping to increase the knowledge, skills and capacities of individuals within the family system.

The process

Typically, we begin with a short telephone discussion on your concerns, goals, and constraints. The purpose of this discussion is to understand and clarify what consumers are trying to achieve. The intake coordinator will then act with discretion as consumer`s contact and guide to assist them in finding the appropriate therapists or life coach based on their needs and preferences.

Professional development

Our Field Instructors or Certified Social Work Supervisors have instituted a flexible, tailor-made in-house/on-site training/internship program to meet the needs of mental health professionals. We are especially interested in providing training, resources and support to therapists who are desirous of establishing clinical practices in faith-based settings.

We have answers to common questions people ask

Psychotherapy is an interpersonal, relational intervention used by trained psychotherapists to aid clients in solving problems of everyday living. This usually includes increasing the individual sense of well-being and reduction of subjective, discomforting experiences. Psychotherapists employ a range of techniques based on relationship building, dialogue, communication and behavior modification that are designed to improve the mental health of individuals and groups (such as in a family).

Mental health is the state or condition of being well mentally, characterized by soundness to thought and outlook, adaptability to one`s environment and balanced behavior. It is reflected in the way people think, feel and act as they face life`s situations. It affects how they handle stress, relate to one another, and make decisions. It influences the ways individuals look at themselves, their lives and others in their lives.

The word counseling (or counselling) comes from the Middle English counseil, from Old French conseil, from Latin cōnsilium; akin to cōnsulere, to take counsel, consult.  Counseling can be defined as a relatively short-term, interpersonal, theory-based process of advising persons who need to resolve developmental and situational issues.
